College of Education ICR Distribution Policy

ICR charged to grants is distributed as follows (example: $1,000 F&A Cost on a grant):

  • 55% stays at Campus                                                                   ($1,000 * 0.55 = $550)
  • 45% goes to College                                                                      ($1,000 * 0.45 = $450)

Of the $450 received by the College:

  • 55% stays at College                                                                     ($450 * 0.55 = $247)
  • 45% goes to Department                                                            ($450 * 0.45 = $202)

Of the $202 received by the Department:

  • 60% stays at Department                                                           ($202 * 0.60 = $121)
  • 40% goes to PI/Grant ICR                                                          ($202 * 0.40 = $80)

The PI/Grant ICR distribution of 40% (of what is returned to the department) equates to about 8% of the total ICR earned on the grant ($1,000 * 0.08 = $80).

ICR Distributions to PIs and Tuition Remission distributions to the academic unit occur after the end of each quarter of the fiscal year and are initiated by the College of Education Budget Office.

ICR Calculator

This calculator can be used to measure the amount of ICR generated by a grant. Indicate the estimated budget per year of the grant and the F&A percentage. The ICR generated per year is then calculated, along with how it is disbursed to the university, college, department, and PI. Please note that this tool estimates ICR amounts and is not exact. Differences in modified vs. total direct costs, for example, would impact the actual calculations.
