How to Create a Web Presence

Concerning the web, I want to…

Share some documents

You already have a Box folder with unlimited storage where you can share documents with others. Choose this option if you just want a place to store and share documents, and you don’t need web pages.

Have a personal faculty page

You already have a faculty page where you can add your contact information, publication information, teaching philosophy, links to other pages, etc. This page is fully driven by your Activity Insight profile. Choose this option if you just want a single page listing some details about you that is easy to maintain.

Have a personal website branded with College of Education

We can give you a space branded with the College of Education. You can easily create pages and upload images and documents. Choose this option if you want class information or multiple pages about a subject, but you don’t want to worry too much about HTML coding or design.

Have a personal website or blog outside the College of Education

You can create a generic WordPress site with some built-in themes by enrolling in http://publish.illinois.edu. Choose this option if you want to blog about a wide range of subjects that may not intersect with the College of Education’s mission and you don’t want to create custom themes or add plug-ins to the WordPress site.

Have a team or project website associated with the College of Education

We can build a microsite that is affiliated with the College of Education. Choose this option if you have a substantial web presence that needs to be separate from the College of Education website, but you don’t have the resources to build your own website, or if you want to have your own design, but you want to use some of the built-in features of our microsite service (like accessibility, news, events, college directory, social media integration, etc.).

Create my own custom website

You can set up a virtual machine through cPanel where you have full FTP / SSH access. Go to https://web.illinois.edu and create a site, using the Optional Support Code “educolladmin”. Choose this option if you have a website that involves significant coding, a third-party platform (like WordPress, Open Journal Systems, etc.) or database access.

Do something else

If you need something else or a combination of these options, contact us at support@education.illinois.edu and we will work with you.
